Genesis 2:25
Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Genesis 3:7-8
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Fellowship in the Garden with our Creator and with each other was one of exposure. His original design was nakedness. Complete vulnerability. The first two, made in His image masterpieces, had no reason to cover themselves. They were covered by God Himself, which enabled them to walk transparently, with the Father, and with one another.
Naked and unashamed. Known and uninhibited.
And with once choice, insecurity became inherent. One choice, which immediately sent the two grabbing for a covering.
And running for cover.

They chose the most accessible thing they could find, fig leaves. Throughout Scripture, fig leaves are a symbol of prosperity, wellbeing, security.
Security.
Covering.
That moment of shame and fear in the Garden, effected each of us for a lifetime. Insecurity has compelled us to grasp for cover, ever since. At the moment of birth, we stretch out our arms to grab for someone or something. The body simulating the soul.
As we mature, we continue to seize for safety, any covering which effectuates our greatest feelings of invulnerability. Physical aptitude, financial stability, educational accomplishments, relationship objectives, career paths, social status. Things we believe to be substantial enough in size to cover our chasm of insecurity.
We were created to live IN security, rather than insecure.
In the security of His covering, safety.
In the security of His affection, identity.
In the security of His provision, rest.

In Him we live. In Him we move. In Him we find our very being. Acts 17:28
All else is counterfeit covering, and all else is eventually exposed as emptiness.
The hunger of our souls is satisfied only when His Presence becomes our only satisfaction. As His face shines fully upon us, we are abundantly free to live IN vulnerability, with our Creator, and with His image bearing creations, unashamed.
